Main Characters

Torin - First appearance, chapter 1

Torin is a fifteen-year-old whitetailed deer satyr who set himself, unprepared, on a quest to supposedly rescue his sister whom he justly believes to be a captive of South Kirsaians. Though his journey begins haphazardly with an encounter with a centaur archer (and only gets more eventful from there), there is nothing to excuse his slowness in delivering Cael from her captors. Perhaps Torin is after a more self-serving goal, fueled by his irrational desire to be like his late brother. Torin still attempts to contact Raenlin through prayer or meditation, which hasn't seemed to work.

Faustulus - First appearance, chapter 5

Faustulus is a North Kirsaian who, if his tattoos are any indication, hails from the Kirsaian state of Ghostwater. He has been able to serve as a mercenary for the satyrs in Ciandom, despite his race and the fact that he is blind. Though generally friendly, he's incredibly secretive and rarely says more than he needs to. Faustulus seems to have a vast knowledge of Kirsaian society, which may prove to be an asset to Torin.

Cernuune - First appearance, chapter 6

Cernuune, also known as World-Mother and The Great Stag, is the goddess of life, fertility, and the world, as well as the creator of the satyrs. From the divine plane, She can see that chaos is unfolding among Her people and She knows She can't stop it. She believes, however, that She may be able to counteract it with some cooperation from the mortal world - still, She prefers to remain indirect in Her approach.

Nohtaz - First appearance, chapter 6

Nohtaz, also known as Notus, is the god of passion and fire, as well as the god of the South Kirsaians. He is responsible for the majority of the turmoil between satyrs and South Kirsaians, but His reasons for the conflict are mostly unknown. Like Cernuune, He appears to be working indirectly, but it's hard to determine how.

Secondary Characters

Silvermane - First appearance, chapter 1

Silvermane, commonly called "Sil" for convenience's sake, is a large draft-race centaur who serves as a bowman/guard in his tribe. He tends not to think things through all the time, which proves to be one of his most terrible flaws. Additionally, though his intentions are good, he often lets his own fears and prejudices cloud his judgment.

Raenlin - First appearance, chapter 2 (flashback); chapter 6 (actual)

Raenlin was the brother of Torin, his elder by six years. He died in the Second Battle of Goldenclaw against a seemingly unstoppable army of common humans, referred to disparagingly as "vampires". His death pushed Torin into believing that either the Gods don't exist, or they don't care about their people. In life, Raenlin was a kind and caring brother... if quite a reckless one.

Aisling - First appearance, chapter 3

Aisling is an odd satyr doe who appears in Torin's dreams from time to time. Despite not knowing who she is when he's awake, Torin feels as though he knows Aisling quite well... or has known her, or maybe will know her. This doesn't mean he trusts her, or that he doesn't get peeved with her easily. He feels like she's trying to push him out of his comfort zone, but he doesn't understand how she's doing it.

Lavernus - First appearance, chapter 6

Lavernus is the god of sorrow, fear, and mistrust, as well as the god of necromancy and other dark types of magic. Though often credited as the creator of the common humans, or "vampires", this isn't the case. Though the other gods don't think highly of him, Nohtaz seems to trust him and Lavernus appears to be aiding Nohtaz in his plans. It is yet unknown if he has any ulterior motives for helping Nohtaz.

Minor Characters

Brunis and Katene - First appearance, chapter 2 (flashback)

Brunis and Katene are Torin's father and mother. Brunis is more often than not calm and composed, an experienced (former) general expected to maintain reasonable reserve. His mate, Katene, is snarky enough for the both of them. She is a high-ranking healer, but a rather abrasive one, who talks most of the time and makes bets with other medics.
Katene takes very little personally but will go to all lengths necessary to protect her children. Brunis comes across as quite lukewarm to everything, though he's always up for some sparring - whether with a weapon, his magic, or his one remaining antler.

Wildblood - First appearance, chapter 4

Wildblood is a young centauress with a quick temper. She's very vocal about things that concern or irritate her, especially if it involves either her laid-back brother Goldfoot or her mate Silvermane. She's quite good at leathercraft and arrow-making, which she supposedly learned from her merchant mother.

Bthoro - First appearance, chapter 6

Bthoro, also known as Boreas, is the god of indifference and ice, as well as the god of the North Kirsaians. He is fairly well-known for not getting along well with His brother, Nohtaz, but He is generally civil and simply doesn't want to get involved in any of the conflict that Nohtaz has started.
